Confronting Invasive Salt Cedar in the American Southwest

Recent feedback from a reader:
Just wanted to remind you that not all "forests" in Colorado are fir, ponderosa, spruce, etc. Some of us live on the high desert part of the Rockies and have more pinon, juniper, gambel oak, boxelder, salt cedar etc. You never seem to have any articles on these areas and so they (the articles) are not of much use to us. Just saying . . . Harry, Durango

Conservationists
of the Year!

The Douglas County Conservation District recently awarded Tree Farmers, Chris and Jaclynn Peterson the Douglas County Conservation District's - "Conservationists of the Year for 2013." Historically, the award has gone for range management so they were honored to be recognized for their forestry efforts.

The Peterson's treated nearly 200 acres of dense forest infested with Dwarf mistletoe, Ips and Mountain pine beetle, and Tussock moth.

Colorado State Forest Service Assistant District Forester, Meg Halford, led the overall project.
